White sow in Pryluky prairies

22.01.2013 17:29:28

Today Pryluky-HarantBud, Ltd. is a young enterprise in Chernihiv region that produces high quality pork. The history of the enterprise began 4 years ago with a deserted pig farm in the Obychiv village near Pryluky where ruins were left from 20 premises located on 18 hectares of land. But if you have the reliable team of people who think the same way and if you have the real desire to go forward any task is within the power.

Dmytro Mykolayovych, you were born in Chernivtsy region but work and live in Chernigiv region how did it happen that moved from the west to the east?

— Its simple. My parents who are chemical engineers had their production practice on one of the enterprises of Chernivtsy. But within a year of my birth they moved to Pryluky. The economic conditions in the country made people scrape by and my father explored himself in entrepreneurship. It was a success that’s why the family settled in Pryluky. With time they bought out a bankrupt meat processing plant. Pryluku meat processing plant, CJSC started working in 2000 after the reconstruction and was headed by my elder brother Arthem. I was living and working in Kyiv in those times.

When did you decide to devote yourself to pig production?

— At the beginning of 2000 the problem of high quality raw material emerged. Imported meat was of a very bad quality. That’s why the idea of building an own pig farm appeared. We got acquainted with the representatives of Agricon, Ltd. the enterprise that was building pig farms and growing commercial pigs. I was attracted by the economics of the business as I realized that pig production could be profitable. We bought a production site in Obychiv. When I started the reconstruction I planned to spend two or three years starting the project and to then find the manager to finish the reconstruction. But I was attracted by the business.

Whose experience did you use during reconstruction?

Agricon, Ltd., supported us. We don’t cooperate as partners but we still have good relationships. We also used experience gained during training seminars. It’s a pity but there are very few pig farms open for cooperation and sharing experience. Despite the fact that it is difficult to call pig farms competitors as volumes of production, efficiency, etc. are very different. We keep looking for the opportunities to study, to gain experience and that was the very advantage for us we could have from joining the Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine
