In pigs’ biorhythms are recorded several peaks of activity: in the morning and at night. But, of course, everything depends on age, housing conditions and even pig feeding. As, for example, the more straw is in the finishing unit the longer time they spend lying. The research proves that sows, having high-fiber diets, rest longer. The behavioral model is also influenced by social status of an animal. It was noticed, that pigs, standing the lowest stair of hierarchy, lie longer. These animals are usually seen: if it’s cold indoors and animals gather in masses, they will be on the brink.

Despite the stereotypes, pigs like purity and avoid lying in the defecation zone. In as little as few days after birth they habituate to defecate there. The defecation model of pigs in pen is the indicator how comfortable the animal feels.

Bring to notice; when animals feel hot they not only can defecate in inappropriate places (on feed, drinking-bowls or rest zone) that prove a stumbling block for operators but they also accustom such behavior and it’s very difficult to retrain them, even doing the ideal management.
